dutch producer casper von banniseht sidles over to bristol stable boogie cafe to present a three-track 12- of impeccable dusty house grooves imbued with that detroit-esque feeling that oozes out of a moodymann or theo parrish record. -bossa- revels in choppy broken beats and plenty of choice samples in a most loose and soulful of concoctions, while -lazy- cools down to a simmer with subtle disco licks making the most immersive of deep house jams. -lone- meanwhile plies a more chipper trade with its hooky chord stabs, but still the vibe remains smooth and laid back, just how the boogie cafe crew seem to like it.

bologna s frank agrario decided to take destiny into his own hands earlier this year, founding micronation records as an outlet for his music. the ladonia ep - named after a disputed micro-nation in southern sweden - is agrario s second missive for the imprint, and features a particularly luscious, amospheric dancefloor roller named after the state s most famous landmark, a sculpture called -nimis-. arguably even better is -i played that track already , a dusty, detroit style deep house cut blessed with a bold cowbell line, sustained chords, and a nagging vocal hook. rick wade provides a deliciously deep and soulful interpretation of that track, while the softly jazzy, broken-house track -lesboa- is also worth a listen.

ali renaults vivod label continues to bring the goods, as recent missives from skatebard and monkeyshop (their first release of any sort for 11 years) emphatically prove. the imprints latest release comes from newcomer paul withey, who follows up a fine contribution to a recent split e.o on ruby hills & diamond mountain, with a debut solo e.p of his own. the five tracks featured are nicely varied stylistically, but all boast the distinctive shimmer of analogue synthesizers and dusty drum machines. highlights include the surging italo-disco revivalism of -pallas-, cheerily positive synth-pop flex of -yes master-, and the curious, radiophonic workshop style weirdness of -beneath the surface-.

sydney based swede adam stromstedt returns for the second release on lyssna, which he co-runs with partners out of stockholm and amsterdam. he s previously done stuff on bristol s banoffee pies and local imprint junk yard connections, mr. tophat s label. his offering on the a side entitled -sinbad- is a dusty and hypnotic deep house jam, that will appeal to fans of thomas melchior or more recently rene audiard. on the flip, there s label co-owner flord king, who just so happens to be the aforementioned connection in amsterdam. his contribution -dapper- is another excursion in subtle trance induction with rolling bass, immaculately programmed rhythm and woozy pads for added effect.

unlucky 013? ha! this one’s a pearler. multi talented producer red rack’em climbs up the fertile n s y d e spirit tree for this glowing summer release in the form of the ‘nothing without you’ ep. a mutation from the same skunky-soul strain of n s y d e 005 by skymark / lady blacktronika. the title cut is a result of a red rack’em tour through the south pacific, connecting with inkswell and fam. what was meant to be a rack’em / inkswell track instead ended up with australian vocalist, now berlin diamond in the rough: misumami liberally sprinkling her magic throughout. with a proposed subject matter based around missing loved ones while apart, misumami weaves an enchanting story of longing, and matters of the heart, through signature sleek, clever, floor ready rack’em production. flip for ‘love beat’ and here we get red rack’em- the funky technician fanboy, dusty fingered native tongue devotee, and closet jazz dancer. the loose, bumping drum programming and sculpted, cubist jazz sampling (inna heavy mandalorian funk fashion) weld this nocturnal seduction dance together. this is a late night groover, an eyes closed on the dance floor vibration. both sides are modern, vital, considered house music, where the problems of the world dissolve in a heads down- vibes up situation. mastered by pole at scapemastering so you know it’s gonna bang...

rivulet records are continuing their release just where the compilation at the beginning of the year left us. again bringing 4 artists together on one release shifting between dusty, mellow house and some how twisted techno. peonies from russia, who has been releasing tapes on his own label „summer night“ since 1 year, sets the mood for the record with his track „soft light“ which sounds almost like a dim, fading memory of a club night full of classy house records. the rework by ital, the head behind „lovers rock“ from new york, builds up the mood in a complete different, driving and technoid atmosphere. the b-side is the first cooperation between two very old friends, berni from trier and jonas palzer from berlin, both part of portray records. their tracks are playing with the same kind of hauntology as the a—side, building up a sound that is familiar and distant in the same way - referring to old records by boards of canada as well as to the contemporary sound of „house“ at its best meaning.

dubtil’s debut for amphia comes in line with the previous 10 releases’ tagline: tailoring new musical perspectives into the multidimensional universe of electronic music. the opener -indoiala- sticks into our brains with its slow decaying voices, pitched down to embrace the devilishly simple percussion. keeping the same eerie approach to his idea of dancefloor oriented loops, dubtil completes side a with -alta schema-, another typical kick-led experience enveloped into a more haunting bassline. bearing a deep house dna yet not losing contact with the dancefloor energy through its breaks pattern, side b’s -repet slap repet- opens the gates to the abstract structure of -contrar-, an apparently chaotic contiguity of weird samples, glued to each other by the minimalistic bassline. jumping from one genre to another, confronting dusty preconcieved ideas just to turn them into a fresh sound: dubtil’s imagination fountain is far from getting dry! we now have the tangible proof.

fortuna co-founder kalbata takes the controls for this new, middle eastern techno banger! al-shark is a banging arab farfisa excursion played frantically on an analog techno rhythm section. it s the first release from the fortuna camp which is not a reissue, but worry not, this could easily be an ancient lebanese proto-house experiment unearthed from a dusty reel.for the b-side kalbata takes things even further with a tribal relick of the original, placing us in a voodoo ceremony where ghosts of sinners come to dance. already on heavy rotation by gilles peterson and acid arab, this anthemic 12- is not to be missed! limited vinyl!

based out of philly m//r delivers his second transmission for l.i.e.s. tip! out of the gate dread nox hits hard with dusty breaks and bizarre buried vocal samples blasting through over a dark ambience clattering about the track. portals following with a similar progression nasty drums and creeping strings moving the cut along, while tea and oranges closes with a stepping cadence which will undoubtedly resonate with certain djs. another strong outing from this up and coming artist.

the labelhead resoe returns with a 3 track ep that contains a remix of cosmic blast by berghain resident norman nodge (mdr/ostgut ton) on the a side resoe delivers a floor mover with fat moving bass and dusty chords that for sure packs the floor. the first track on the b side norman nodge gives cosmic blast his trademark touch of dirty simple techno. the breakdown in the middle will make your woofers bleed!!!! the second track on the b side is a dub techno track with lots of elements from a 2 hour field recording resoe did in his backyard from the studio. the track builds up slowly and ends in a smooth groovy atmosphere.

culled over the naïve bedroom sessions of early university, “chillax” is akin to blaring an extra hot mixtape from a junky deck in your car on your way to cape canaveral to see the last space shuttle leave earth, all while trying to speed run kirby’s dream land on your sister’s gameboy color.
heavy sampling tends to drive this jeep and give it some character, many popular/unknown gems lifted from various dusty tapes and wax procured from thrift stores and vinyl throughout northern florida, cheap drum machines are clumsily slammed against it all and keep everything in a familiarly dance-y zone, while amateur chords and melodies are provided via guitar center synths and youtube ripped commodore 64 blips and stabs (note the cheeky nintendo voices as outliers). a fusion of analog discoveries and pixelated memories (melded together by the relentless florida heat), its an apt soundtrack for long and wistful road trips.

the swedish label is back with a three tracker valvet studios production, featuring per hammars sound of dusty dub house. dixies dubb is a straight forward and warm cut with a good amount of chamber-sounding ingredients. argys take on the track is a timeless piece of dubby, stripped and sparkling techno. just as obvious as it is venturous. as the last track on the flip, we find severnaja, that takes us on a mission over an icy surface. the travelling bassline and overheated drums in symbiosis with the melody brings the listener to uninhabited places.

isherwood is a young and talented artist, who will be making his debut release on lize. he has a recognisable sound that is deep and dusty. *the situationist ep* is the name of the record and the leading track is o o 3, while the other two round off the ep nicely.

giant cuts presents. shmlss. shmlss consists of bart and michiel, two young dutch guys who connected with each other through the disco sound they both love. always searching for those rare gems in dark, dusty old record stores, they often come home with the same records. their dj sets are diverse and they have developed a particular sound. disco selectors at 22tracks amsterdam and with releases in the bag for special edition, disco deviance, to rack & ruin, paper disco, because music things are certainly bright for shmlss.

ngly makes a return to l.i.e.s. following his highly lauded “speechless tape” ep from 2014. since then we have seen argentinian producer taking his live act around the world to much acclaim. luckily he s also been in the studio recording and finally delivering this new three track ep. here we get his signature dusty low slung sound full of basslines, creeper strings and driving drum programming. these are subtle yet effective funk-ridden club tools that are sure to move the floor and a precusor to even more from the in demand producer.

forbidden colours and eduardo de la calle join forces again, this time for a solo ep from de la calle. colour planet corporation contains 3 original trippy and minimalistic cuts. to wrap things up, label boss el_txef_a made a dusty remix that brings a perfect balance to the release.

this first compilation from copenhagen label pattern abuse is an eclectic collection of some of denmark’s finest artists from all around the musical spectrum. quirky electronica, retro techno, future garage, post punk and more: at first glance the nine tracks on this relase seem an odd blend. but played together, a common thread of dark and dusty sound appears, showcasing pattern abuse as a label that is sure to deliver unexpected and high quality sounds.

the next installment on aus music sees the return of a relatively new addition to the roster rob glassett aka fold. throughout previous 12inches on manmakemusic and electric minds and on his outstanding netflix & chill debut for aus last year - fold has laced together dusty house grooves built with a classic approach to sampling funk, disco and soul records. next up - his lennys jam ep starts up with a dub techno groove built with delayed and panned stabs and sharp, pacy drums. rosie lea lays out a rich and sunny groove as a playful sample filters into focus over deftly treated drum kit samples and a buoyant bass line. tracksuits and tennis shoes then follows up with a no-nonsene party jam a short funk link is set over a booming kick that closes up a nicely varied package.

the maghreban has been making dusty house music for a couple of years now and has put a few records out on his own imprint zoot and also on versatile records. some people have liked this. the maghreban found a bunch of old cassette tapes at his dads house. one said ‘alex july 84&#8242,,, on it. this tape was from alexandria, egypt in the summer of 1984. it had some interesting music recorded on it. the maghreban sampled a few of the tracks to make this one.

needing very little introduction here is soulful scotsman al kent, who delivers the dirty goods for his first outing on rnt. good inside and 4006 are a pair of dusty reworks, as gritty and groovy as you like. but the prize of this ep might just be come back home, the crown jewel of his decade-earlier secret sounds collection, finally getting a proper vinyl for the first time ever!

jackie brown enters 2016 with new 12 inch from el nino andres - a four track ep called “she understood duke ellington”. as with his previous releases, croatian producer offers his take on house music thats influenced by jazz, soul and funk. drum machines, samplers and antons improvisations on his piano and rhodes make for an ep of warm, melodic and groovy house music. everything is rounded up with amazing artwork from maximilian moser.

embracing disco, techno and house music in all its declinations, what ever not introduces now british artist reformed society, project started by house producer harsh puri as a consequence of djing and collecting records since 1998, debuting with a four track old school house ep, optimistic chaos coherently fitting with the italian imprint philosophy. ‘hope’ has that solar, yet dusty groove folding distorted rhythmics and joyful pads around an insistent lead dubby pattern and shimmering synths. ‘optimistic chaos’ is again smooth but lightly gloomy, until a pause intoxicates one’s body and mind filling them with inebriating ambients. ‘incognito’ delivers a deep driving atmosphere here, featuring dogged, crisp drums together with minimalist, yet momentary cosmic motives. for the closing cut ‘detracid’, the artist cooks up a brew of acid lines with the usual charming synths and vivid hats, building a light sense of tension fired up by the warm, heady sound scapes. each track is similar to the last, stiffening the musical timbre of the label, confirming the producer’s strong artistic identity as a consequence.

pocket money returns for their third release and they are back with what could easily be their strongest output yet. just hitting the ripe old age of one, and a couple of releases in, this label has found its stride nicely and starting to turn heads in the scene. taking the spotlight for the deep basics ep is the producer keepin soul, who may only have a handful of releases to his name but puts himself in the spotlight with this deep and meaningful pocket money release. this is a beautifully dusty sounding record, it opens up doing exactly what it says on the tin deep basics and doing them well. this a1 is all about hypnotic grooves undulating against the drive of crisp, warm and exciting percussive grooves.

for those that knoe is proud to present some of the freshest and timeless sounds the uk has to offer from numonika, sounding as good now as they would have done when recorded ten years ago. three tracks from the original demo cd have been selected, compiled, re-mastered and pressed by for those that knoe onto a special 12- for collectors and club djs alike. in true knoe fashion, release 4/1 is a compilation of tracks unearthed from a cd squirrelled away for a decade in a dusty loft. the cd in question was loaded with unreleased and untitled material from the owners of and producers for two of the uks rarest and sought after tech house labels rinsed by djs such as craig richards in the late 90s.

2nd unknown entity with dusty / dry techno

its always been tricky predicting what firecracker recordings will release next, though few would have expected an ep of freestyle, darkside drum machine jazz and percussive drone from berceuse heroique, nous and bedouin regular healing force project. sounding like early 23 skidoo replayed on drum machines and samplers, theres much to admire about the hectic rhythms, foreboding textures and dusty samples at the heart of gravitational lensing. its unclassifiable and completely out there, paranoid, dense and intense, with the fizzing drums, mangled horns and metallic percussion hits of random walks just edging out the experimental jungle-jazz madness of apophenia in the top tracks stakes.

resopal-schallware records, known for its persistent pursuit of quality jams, unleashes the playa ep by santo domingo resident ernesto paredano. he’s an artist in the truest sense of the word who creates his own sound, his own expansive dynamic at the same time- the a-side contains the track yuca which features a surge of delayed bass lines and crispy static rises from below and echoes swoop and simmer. the 4/4 structure is infused with far-off blips and the dusty sizzles of low-pitched vocals. on „atea- warm tech keeps the sound organic while the other elements pull together around its weight before culminating. the three tracks on the playa ep could be classified as deep techno, but with enough power, groove and melody to set afire the dancefloor.

q3a is a new alias of route 8, a producer who has credits on labels like lobster theremin and nous as well as black venison. now the producer serves up a sumptuous four track ep, space chamber, on the delsin label and it touches on many different styles with equally great results. lost souls is first and is an expansive bit of well driven deep house with rich synths and cavernous innards that really suck you in. next up is another serenely crafted bit of atmospheric house with dusty drums and lose hits all backed with heavenly pads and retro bass. the first of the b-side tracks is a chunky acid kicker with angelic vocals drifting up top as a controlled 303 line rips up the foreground. spaced out and deep, driving yet emotive, it is a moving bit of club music before the b2 trips you out on a silvery electro tip with its icy lines and slap-funk snares. overall, this is an expansive and perfectly formed ep and comes with a sleeve by boris tellegen.

the story of seymour liberty continues - out from the boogieman blues & the jungles of rotating lovers - to the darker side of magic, as he finds himself entangled in the midst of a wanted widow. the vinyl lp includes a downloadcode.

jean nipon most recently known for his standout productions on parisien label clekclek boom joins the l.i.e.s. stable with a new three track ep. the a-side sees nipon go straight for the throat with a chicago-esce muted-synth beating drum track, not unlike early poindexter or ricky smith productions- it is effective, dj ready, and geared for the club. the two track b-side takes a more mellow and dusty approach- without losing his sense of rhythm engaging drum programming push along tape warbled melodies as the tracks expand and release, balancing out and letting this ep breathe perfectly.

trax delve deep into their dusty vaults and unearth more rarities. this time we have an extended edit of armando s downfall by the one and only derrick carter. on the flip we have 2 mixes of armandos ecstasy a track that only appeared as a bonus track on the 1999s repress of his seminal the new world order lp. released in conjunction with trax 2015.

and just like that, sounds of the city bring out a new walt j ep! the label is fast becoming recognised for its ability to force mythical house producers from chicago back into the studios after decades of hiatus, and we still don t know how they manage it! after brian harden s recent stormer, this three-tracker by the great walt j is just what we need to sooth our evenings a strong beat winds into starry melodies and forward-thinking percussion on test your limits, while simplicity (the atkins tribute) calls all stations to detroit and lays down some utter truth it s exactly the sort of house music we want to hear bald, fiery, and deep as hell. bypolar, on the other hand, is classic walt just doing his thing dope samples, heavy chords, and dusty drum swings. the quintessential house shit.
